Illumichat Bot Policy

Certain types of bots are permitted on Illumichat.net, with restrictions.  Permitted bots are game bots, which run a continuous game, such as trivia; channel control bots, which help run and administer a channel; entertainment bots, which provide “fun” for users in a specific channel; dice bots, which are a necessary part of some RPG channels; and stat bots, which collect, display, etc., channel statistics, either in the specific channel or to a channel’s website.

Illumichat.net, in part and in whole, will not provide bots to any user.  Individuals may provide free bots to users, if they make it clear that they are doing so as individuals, outside the purview of the network.

Bot owners must have registered nicks and channels.  They must register their bots’ nick(s).  Bots may be placed only in channels listed in the bot's marking post on the message board..  Bot masters, people who own several bots, may ask permission to create a “home channel” for their bots.  A home channel is a channel where all bots belonging to the bot master are kept, in addition to each bot’s individual “work” channel.

At this time, the only bot masters allowed on Illumichat.net are staff.

All eggdrop bots must possess an unique ident so an akill on the ident will work if it becomes necessary. Any bots that use their host/server as an ident will be zlined and so will the host/server that is running them.

Once a user has registered his bot’s nick, he must request a staff member to review the type of bot and its purpose.  If the user and his bot comply with the AUP, the staff member marks the bot as exempt.

Game bots, which run a continuous dedicated game may be allowed to run continuously.  It is important to note that in order to be considered a game bot and thus be allowed to remain in channel with no users present, the bot must be dedicated to running a continuous game.

It is, however, permissible for the bot to either turn off the game until a user joins the channel, or even make the channel secret until a user joins the channel.  Entertainment bots that run small games at the request of users, but which are not dedicated game bots, are not allowed to hold open a channel.  In other words, just because a bot can play a quick game of “Hot Potato,” “Hangman,” or poker, doesn’t make it a dedicated game bot.

Bots cannot be used or placed in unregistered channels, even if said channel is set +s.

Bots cannot be used for advertising or commercial purposes, even if only in their home channels.  It is acceptable for a bot to announce in channel, “Play the best trivia in the world here.”  It is not acceptable for a bot to send that message out of channel, nor would it be acceptable for a bot to advertise any other network, channel, or commercial enterprise.

Bots cannot be used or left alone in channels for the purpose of having channels show on the active channel list.

If the bot is not in compliance or is found to be out of bounds a second time, it may be killed, akilled, or z-lined, as circumstances demand.  Bots found continually out of bounds or compliance will be permanently banned, and their owners subject to the same penalties.

All forms of clone bots, advertising bots, warez bots, spam bots, shopping bots, etc., are strictly forbidden and will be permanently killed as found.
